- Tim Allen says this scene in *Toy Story 5* was initially 'creepy' as he recorded vocals for Buzz Lightyear.

- He was skeptical when he read the script and saw that Buzz kisses Jessie.

- In the end, he "loved" the scene "because it affects everybody in the room."

Thirty-one years after the first *Toy Story*, Buzz Lightyear finally finds love in the fifth film — but Tim Allen wasn't fond of the storyline initially.

In *Toy Story 5*, the space ranger confesses his true feelings for cowgirl Jessie (voiced by Joan Cusack), who reciprocates with a kiss, which Allen found "creepy," he admitted to *Us Weekly*.

"When I'm doing [*Toy Story*], I'm literally an 8-year-old kid. That's what the personality I feel is inside Buzz, is my 11-year-old. So it's like, 'Oh God, oh no, I'm doing that?!'" he said.

Allen compared the immaturity to how his youngest daughter, 17-year-old Elizabeth, used to act whenever there was a romantic scene in a movie.

“Every time there's a kissing scene, everybody gets really quiet in the room, especially when [Elizabeth was] a little younger," he explained*.* “And that is exactly how I responded [to Buzz kissing Jessie]."

The actor felt just as uneasy when he first read the script for *Toy Story 5*, which culminates in a pretend wedding for Buzz and Jessie arranged by Bonnie and her new friend Blaze.

"I remember when I first read it, I said, 'Are you going to show this?' It's like Woody's bald spot," Allen told Us. "You kind of move them out of the animated thing, and it gets into some larger dramatic questions. Can they get married?"

The sweet moment ultimately won him over in the end.

"I loved [it] because it affects everybody in the room," Allen explained. "You know, adults, and then kids go, 'Eew!' You got that potpourri of responses."

Buzz's lovey-dovey storyline may have actually been a direct result of Allen's half-hearted request to Pixar after *Toy Story 4* that his character should be more relevant to the franchise's narrative. In addition to 2022's spinoff *Lightyear* starring Chris Evans as the voice of Buzz, the character earned himself a love interest for* Toy Story 5*.

"I was just kidding around, but it was very startling when I saw the storyboards," he told the outlet. "I said, 'Okay, so you took it seriously. That's interesting!' That was funny."
