A new trailer for Christopher Nolan's *The Odyssey* certainly takes viewers on quite a journey — one that includes a full reveal of a horrifying cyclops and Oscar winner Charlize Theron's role in the upcoming epic.

The clip charts the course for Nolan's big-screen adaptation of Homer's *Odyssey*, setting Matt Damon on a dangerous journey as Odysseus, the King of Ithaca in Greece.

In the preview, we see for the first time a glimpse of the horrors Odysseus meets on his seafaring journey, including a full-body look at a horrifying cyclops and a whirlpool likely caused by legendary sea monster Charybdis.

Along the way, Odysseus' son, Telemachus (Tom Holland), is hellbent on tracking his father down, much to the chagrin of Antinous (Robert Pattinson), an imposing figure who not only attempts to court Telemachus' mother, Penelope (Anne Hathaway), but also chides Telemachus for "pining for a daddy you didn't even know, like some sniveling bastard" in Odysseus' absence.

Elsewhere in the clip, Theron's role as Circe is revealed in full, with the Academy Award-winning star appearing in a scene in which she speaks to Odysseus, advising him that he's "a man who needs to control his fate, but you can not control this."

The trailer ends with Damon's Odysseus saying that "no one can stand between me and home," all while shots flash on screen of the cyclops hunting down his men, before their ship reaches Charybdis' imposing whirlpool in the preview's closing moments.

Other cast members include Zendaya, John Leguizamo, Jon Bernthal, and Lupita Nyong'o in an undisclosed role.

In a new interview on *The Late Show With Stephen Colbert* on Monday, Nolan said his directorial follow-up to the Best Picture-winning *Oppenheimer* "is written in a nonlinear way" and stars "halfway through the story."

"What we're jumping off from is Ithacus, we start in Ithaca," Nolan told Colbert, adding that the film picks up 10 years after the Trojan War, and "things aren't all wonderful in his kingdom" in Odysseus' absence.
