Rihanna shared a heart-warming interaction with Sheinelle Jones at the 2026 Met Gala

The Today co-host shared a sweet selfie of the duo on the red carpet

Jones recently celebrated her first birthday since her husband, Uche Ojeh, died of brain cancer in 2025

Rihanna had some inspiring words for Sheinelle Jones at the 2026 Met Gala.

As the 38-year-old superstar made her way up the iconic Metropolitan Museum of Art steps, she stopped to share a special moment with the Today with Jenna & Sheinelle co-host.

In a video shared by Today on Instagram, Rihanna is seen holding Jones' hands as she tells her, "You deserve to be poured into. And you're beautiful, you're a Black journalist. And I respect you. I love you for this."

Before she departs, the Fenty Beauty founder adds, "And by the way, your outfit is f---ing fire."

"When Rihanna affirms you mid interview," was written over the clip.

On her own Instagram account, Jones, 48, shared a kissy-faced selfie of the duo with the caption, "When you try to celebrate her, and she sends love right back your way. 🥹"

For the star-studded event, where the theme was "Costume Art," Jones wore a sparkling metallic Lafayette 148 gown designed by Creative Director Emily Smith.

Rihanna stunned in a dramatic Maison Margiela gown featuring an impressive bodice that created a dress-within-a-dress illusion. The majority of the piece was made with a shiny fabric that looked like liquid metal, while the center appeared to be dripping in actual jewels. She accessorized with ear cuffs and rings.

Last month, Jones celebrated an emotional birthday after a difficult year. The anchor's birthday last year came just one month before the death of her husband, Uche Ojeh, whose condition with glioblastoma had significantly worsened starting in late 2024.

The Today co-host took an extended leave of absence to be by her longtime love’s side and to care for their three children — Kayin, 16, and twins Clara and Uche Jr., 13.

She delayed the release of her book in the aftermath of Ojeh’s death at the age of 45.

On the pre-taped Friday, April 17, episode of her show, Jenna Bush Hager surprised her co-host and friend with a bright pink birthday cake featuring the cover of her newly released book, Through Mom's Eyes: Simple Wisdom from Mothers Who Raised Extraordinary Humans.

“We love you. We are so happy for you,” Bush Hager, 44, told Jones. “You’ve had an incredible birthday week.”

“Okay, I’m not gonna get all emotional, but 47 was a lot,” Jones admitted. “And now I’m turning 48."

She continued, “And when I turned 47, it was a tough day on my 47th birthday and I just couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel. So for 48 to be so wonderful and to be here with you and you guys, just lets you know that if you’re in something, just know that there is light.”
