As per a prominent royal expert, Prince Harry was equally responsible for “Megxit,” with the Duke playing a major role in the Sussexes’ decision to step down as working royals in January 2020 and relocate to Montecito, California. While Meghan Markle has faced much of the backlash over their controversial exit, the commentator believes Harry should share the blame.

Royal expert Sarah Vine believes Prince Harry should share equal responsibility for “Megxit,” arguing that the Duke of Sussex played a significant role in the Sussexes’ decision to step down as working royals.
While Harry has reportedly blamed the British media for pushing the couple toward the move, Meghan Markle has often faced the bulk of the criticism from fans and the media. However, the Daily Mail columnist insists that the Duke should bear an equal share of the responsibility for the fallout that followed.
Vine wrote: “For all her mistakes, I don’t think Meghan deliberately set out to be a disruptor. And I don’t think it’s fair to hold her solely responsible for the shambles that followed. It’s easy to always blame the woman, but the truth is Harry was as much a part of Megxit as she was.”

The royal expert believed that Harry “never got over losing his mother” and held a “deep resentment” towards his father, King Charles. Vine explained: “The truth is, Megxit was never just about Meghan and her struggles to adapt to royal life; it was just as much about Harry’s trauma, finally coming to a head after all those years. He wanted out as much as she did – and she was his escape route.”
The royal columnist shared that the Duke of Sussex viewed Markle as his “freedom” and a means to escape his “generational course”. Harry wanted to write his own story, set the record straight, and his wife was a means to do that.
Vine also noted that, unlike his older brother William, who is the heir to the throne, Harry did not have to “worry about the succession”. Hence, he chose a bride according to his own fancy.
