Paris Jackson is opening up about her decision to call off her engagement to music producer Justin Long.

“It was a choice that I needed to make to be happy,” Jackson shared during Wednesday’s episode of the Call Her Daddypodcast. The musician said she “did try and end it” several times throughout their relationship, but something stopped her.

“There was this little voice being like, but what if however long down the line — and this is a voice that a lot of us have — of if I had just hung in there a little bit longer, it would have gotten better,” Jackson continued. “I’m the person that needs to be sure. Really really needs to be sure.”

The singer said she had a “whole council of people” around her who were asking the “right questions” about wanting to stay in the relationship.

“My answers weren’t good enough,” she admitted. “I’ve realized just because someone is a good person doesn’t mean they’re my person, and I have to be happy.”

Jackson continued, “I realize that my non-negotiables are allowed to be non-negotiables. If these big major needs are not being met, it doesn’t matter that you’re a good person and you’re not going to cheat on me. That’s not a reason to stay.”

Jackson announced in December 2024 that she and Long were engaged after two years of dating.

“Doing life with you these last years has been an indescribable whirlwind and I couldn’t dream of anyone more perfect for me to do it all with. thank you for letting me be yours,” Jackson captioned a since-deleted Instagram post offering insight into Long’s proposal. “I love you.”

Jackson noted during Wednesday’s Call Her Daddy episodethat she wasn’t concerned with discussing the breakup publicly because her relationships have been so closely monitored.

“This is also my second engagement that I called off. The first one, I don’t know if you could count the first one,” Jackson said, not disclosing the identity of her first fiancé. “It was real to me. Even though we were strung out on drugs and the ring was one that he bought with my money without me knowing. The love was so real for me in that first one.”

As for her love life now, the 28-year-old daughter of Michael Jackson played coy.

“I’m happy,” she teased. “That’s all I’m going to say.”
