While older Gibbs arrived at Woody's doorstep in the present day, the 90s timeline followed a case in which Woody was suspected of murder. NCIS: Origins Season 3 Episode 2 saw Woody get in trouble with the police after stepping in to save a woman being harassed by some men. The situation escalated into a bar fight and Woody found himself surrounded by the police until Gibbs stepped in and safely brought him home. Woody's problem did not end here as the duo discovered a dead body in Woody's house, with Woody's fingerprint on her necklace.

Since the strangled female bowler, found dead at Woody's place, had a history with Woody, FBI Agent Casey Bloom was convinced that he was the killer. While the team was taken off the case, Gibbs wanted to clear Woody's name. When Lala advised Gibbs to think before doing something, the conversation shifted to Gibbs' marriage to Diane and his romantic history with Lala. While Lala maintained they should prioritize their professional relationship, Gibbs said it was not easy for him.

Woody's name was eventually cleared in NCIS: Origins Season 3 Episode 2 after Gibbs remembered Woody complaining about his door's lock. That detail led Gibbs to the real killer, who the key and framed Woody for murder.

Older Gibbs asked for Woody's help in NCIS: Origins Season 3 Episode 2

This brought us back to why Gibbs showed up at Woody's doorstep in the present timeline in NCIS: Origins Season 3 Episode 2. Gibbs maintained that Woody owed him a favor and filled him in on the attack from the premiere. Woody praised Gibbs for pulling the fingerprint on his neck. Gibbs asked Woody to run the print in his equipment since he cannot risk exposing his identity, as the attackers believe that he is dead. While Woody was more than happy to run the print, it led him to a locked profile beyond his reach.

When this appeared to be a dead end, Gibbs knew whom to contact and he left to meet another old friend after leaving his dog with Woody.

This brought Gibbs to his old office, as NCIS: Origins Season 3 Episode 2 directly set up his reunion with Tony. As Gibbs walked into his old office, a voiceover reiterated that family is always there for you:

“You don’t think. You just go. You get on a plane you don’t want to get on. Walk back into a place you swore you were done with. But when you get there, you’re home, and home means family. And whether it’s been 10 minutes or 10 years, when you need them, family’s always there."

NCIS: Origins Season 3 Episode 2 concluded with Gibbs entering Tony's office, setting up an exciting reunion in the upcoming episode.
