In 2023, King-Pearson explained on Fox 5's *Portia *that her life had been changed when she suffered a stroke a year before.

She said then that she had faced "quite a year of recovery" following her stroke in April 2022.

"I felt like I was having a migraine," she said. "What I ended up doing is, as soon as I got in my house, I called my neighbor, and I just passed out."

Her neighbor happened to be a doctor and called 911.

King-Pearson said she had found herself on a feeding tube and having to relearn basic motor skills.

"It was very hard for me emotionally," she said. "Because I was very independent going straight to a dependent person."

She joked that she had been "trying to fight the nurses" in the hospital back then, but clarified that she was not being literal.
