Most talented young players will flash early in their careers, as Notre Dame football has seen many times over the last few years.

One of those teases was from former 247Sports 5-star defensive end Bryce Young. During his freshman season, he flashed multiple times with 23 tackles and 1.5 sacks while blocking three punts. It very much seemed like Young would breakout in his second season, but that wasn’t the case. He’s have just 20 tackles but did get to the quarterback two times.

Many expected the former top prospect to already be one of the nation’s best, but that hasn’t happened for Young. Sometimes it takes a bit for a player to fully realize their potential, and it could be happening for him this fall. In a clip shared by On3’s Jack Soble, he’s getting to quarterback CJ Carr. Young clearly held up instead of taking the starter down, but the fact that he was able to shed his block and track down the quarterback is significant.

Notre Dame is in need of edge rushers stepping up this season, and Young could be one of those players. He certainly has the ability, he just needs to put it all together.
