Queen Bey is famously disciplined about pretty much everything—but especially when it comes to controlling an album rollout. She reveals only what she wants, exactly when she wants—rules and pre-conceived notions be damned. (Remember, when she just dropped her self-titled 2013 album online without warning?) It’s why the Beyhive always has an ear to the ground, ready to decipher anything that might hint at new music. This week, it was her Instagram account that sounded the alarm—is Beyonce’s Act III arriving imminently?
The first act of her rumored trilogy arrived in 2022 with Renaissance (Act I), followed by Cowboy Carter (Act II) in 2024; judging by the two-year intervals between the previous albums’ releases, we can expect Act III to arrive sometime this year. No wonder everyone is so antsy!
What genre is the album?
On April 30th, the Beyhive took note when Beyoncé quietly uploaded an archival clip of Destiny’s Child hugging legendary rock singer Stevie Nicks (also of Fleetwood Mac, of course) onto her website. The 2001 interview with The Insider was tied to Nicks’ cameo appearance in the “Bootylicious” music video. The song, from the group’s third album Survivor (which turned 25 on April 25), samples the guitar riff from Nicks’ “Edge of Seventeen,” from her debut solo album Bella Donna (which turns 45 in July).

This evidence is as good as anything to support the belief that Beyoncé’s third act is a rock album. The previous two acts explored how Black culture influenced a particular genre. Renaissance traversed the history of dance music, while Cowboy Carter saw Beyoncé embody the country music star (the album art had the star holding an American flag while in full cowboy garb, complete with a ten-gallon hat). Fans expect rock music to be the next in line.
When will it be released?
While we don’t have a specific day, all signs point to the fact that it may happen sometime… soon? Perhaps even maybe… this year? Consider the fact that Beyoncé is a relatively private person; living her life away from the cameras and social media unless she’s got something to announce or promote. A post from April 27th in which the singer is wearing a big ruffly purple dress is rumored to be a reference to Prince (the tenth anniversary of his passing was commemorated on April 21st). While Prince may or may not be a key in the puzzle of Beyoncé’s next act, there is still one more thing to consider. This Monday, she will be a co-host for the Met Gala, the first time she’s attended since 2016, when she was fresh off the heels of dropping Lemonade.
One thing’s for sure, we’ll be watching the Queen ascend the steps of the Metropolitan Museum next week, ready to decipher any clues she may slyly drop our way.
