The Godfather: Part III star shared a message with fans on Instagram after well wishes poured in on the actor’s 87th birthday on Wednesday, Aug. 12.
“Well, thank you so much. It’s my birthday and I’ve had more people write me and call me...” he began.
Sharing plans for the day, he revealed, “I’m going down to Memphis, to Graceland. I’m going to have a great time, and thank you all for all the wonderful messages. It’s been a pleasure to be here for 87 years.”
In the caption, the actor wrote, “Thank you everyone for wishing me a happy 87th birthday. To many more celebrations and years of tanning with you all ! Love, GH.”
One of Hamilton’s sons, George Hamilton Jr., also shared birthday wishes for the star, writing, “Happy 87th Birthday to my dad; the King of Cool, the smoothest of operators, and the man who has kept us laughing and tanning, for 87 years. Love you, Dad. Here’s to many more. 🥂❤️.”

The legendary actor came to fame after talent scouts discovered him while he was still in high school in Palm Beach, Florida. It began a whirlwind career that saw Hamilton become a star of screens big and small, later becoming better known for his larger-than-life personality than his fascinating career.
Hamilton has long been reflective on the life and career he’s enjoyed. Rumors emerged last year that the actor is working on a part two to his 2009 memoir, Don’t Mind If I Don’t, in hopes of sharing adventures he’s embarked on in 17 years since its release.
In a 2016 conversation with PEOPLE, Hamilton shared, “Well, it’s interesting because I’ve been through Hollywood since 1958 and have been through so many different times.”
He continued, “I’ve been faced with a lot of things I never thought I would face in my life, including the question of my own mortality.”
Hamilton doesn’t dwell in darkness, instead making the most of his days. He concluded, “It’s been an extraordinary life.”
