In today’s Days of our Lives recap for August 12, 2026, Brady and Rachel had a heart-to-heart, the teens marked the end of a tumultuous summer, Xander made a huge sacrifice, and EJ may have met his match in Chief Water Inspector Devlin St. John.

The Devlin’s in the Details

In EJ’s bedroom, Devlin the water inspector needled the flu-ridden DiMera with questions about Coriseal. EJ played dumb, and Devlin urged him not to “pee on my leg and tell me it’s a car wash.” During a drunken bender on the golf course, EJ’s stooge, George, had told Devlin all about the DiMeras using Smith Island as a toxic dump site. EJ vowed he’d kill George and then demanded to know what Devlin wanted.

Devlin, who had personally visited Smith Island himself (braving mosquitos and all), laid out a nightmare scenario for EJ wherein the still-contaminated ground water seeped into the river and poisoned all of Salem. Then EJ would be global news, and he’d go viral as the masses created viral dance memes like the "Arsenic Cha-Cha" to celebrate his surely long prison tenure. Since no one else was capable of stopping his evil ways, it was up to Chief Water Inspector Devlin St. John to save the day. With that being said, Devlin had taken the trouble to compile an itemized list of the expenses necessary to resolve the problem for everyone...including a “reputation management” fund for EJ.

“Hush money,” EJ corrected. Devlin preferred to think of the money as “remediation.” If he could happen to afford a nice bottle of wine in the process, all the better. When EJ sneered that Devlin couldn’t play the hero while trading in extortion and blackmail, Devlin assured his adversary he hadn’t been interested in playing the “white hat” in a long time. In fact, his turn as Harry Potter villain Severus Snape during a costume mixer had gone quite smashingly.

No longer would the DiMeras use the legal system as a “free trial” they could simply cancel, Devlin promised. EJ subtly sent an ‘SOS’ text to Rita, who soon entered the room with tea tray in hand. Devlin declined the tea, as he’d learned that anything drinkable coming from the DiMera mansion should come sealed. EJ drank the tea to assure Devlin it was fine and poison-free. Devlin nonetheless gave his regards and said he had to be going.

EJ wondered if Devlin might be returning home to a special lady. Devlin declared himself “happily single,” aside from his chronically distressed rescue ferrets. EJ and Rita both had glints in their eyes at the revelation. EJ pronounced that Devlin had confirmed no one would miss him if he went away for a while and grabbed the startled inspector by the shoulders. Rita then wielded her trusty syringe and stabbed a wide-eyed Devlin in the shoulder.

Kissing Summer Goodbye

At Tate’s gym, the fitness instructor helped Aaron with his ‘getting buff’ regimen. Following some light-hearted banter about Aaron’s progress, Tate got serious when the topic of school came up. Although he found operating his business rewarding and challenging, he worried that his decision to drop out of college could drive a further wedge between Holly and him. They had already been through so much drama. Aaron believed Tate and Holly just needed some fun time, and he suggested Tate and he meet up with Holly and Ari to lift Tate’s spirits.

Meanwhile, in Horton Town Square, Holly and Ari’s back-to-school shopping spree failed to lift Holly’s spirits. She told Ari about her most recent fraught encounter with Amy Choi and lamented the ongoing impact of Sophia’s death on her life. Ari supported her friend until the boys showed up. Aaron spirited Ari away on a secret mission.

Later, Tate and Holly arrived at the park, at Ari and Aaron’s behest. They were greeted by lounge chairs and a set-up for a makeshift smores campfire. The teens seemed touched and happy as their friends explained they wanted a do-over of their ill-fated cabin trip…with a much better ending. The quad enjoyed smores and an impromptu frisbee tournament. But when Holly, Ari, and Aaron started talking about school, Tate stood aside, feeling left out.

After Holly invited Tate for another round of frisbee, a nervous Aaron took advantage of his moment alone with Ari. The duo reminisced about the fun they’d had at Smith Island. Aaron only regretted the trip was cut short before he could do something he had been wanting to do. When Ari asked what Aaron meant, he took a chance and kissed her.

Mansion Mayhem

At the Kiriakis mansion, Xander ended a call just as Sarah approached him. Noting his upset state, she asked what was wrong. A gutted Xander confided that the sale of the mansion was in progress. Maggie had already been informed, and she was “stoic.” Xander beat himself up for losing his home, his legacy, and his daughter’s future security.

Sarah affirmed that all Victoria needed or wanted from Xander was her father’s love. While Xander had made mistakes, so had many others, including her. Sarah taking a share of the blame confounded Xander. She explained that keeping Philip’s secret because she hadn’t trusted Xander had contributed to the ensuing turmoil.

Xander agreed that a lack of trust had led to their downfall. And until that issue was resolved – As Xander trailed off, Sarah compelled him to finish the thought. With a meaningful look, Xander calmly stated that she knew what he meant. After a beat, Sarah said she did. She stepped away and used the need to tell Brady about the latest developments as an excuse to leave.

Back-to-School Blues

At Brady’s place, Brady asked a down-trodden Rachel if she wanted to cancel their back-to-school shopping plans. Rachel confessed she’d been thinking about the previous year’s shopping spree, when her mom had taken her before she had to go to prison. She couldn’t understand why her mom kept leaving her. Brady somewhat defended Kristen and her love for Rachel, but Rachel insisted that her mom’s departures were a choice.

Rachel then shocked Brady by making another admission: she was beginning to believe that she might be better off when her mom wasn’t in her life. While she loved Kristen deeply, her mom always brought chaos and “bad things.” Rachel tearfully asked Brady if she was a horrible person for her thoughts. Brady reassured his daughter that her feelings were perfectly normal. She was the kid, and it was her parents’ job to ensure she had an upbringing as free from stress and adult problems as possible.

Brady hugged Rachel, who expressed her relief that they’d talked. Her mood lightened enough to joke with Brady about his terrible fashion sense. After Rachel went to prepare for her and Brady’s shopping excursion, Sarah paid her beau a visit. He her on the latest with Rachel and Kristen, and she in turn broke the news to him about the likelihood of the family losing both Titan and the mansion.

Sarah was especially sorry that Titan’s problems likely meant the loss of Basic Black. Brady was likewise wistful and feeling helpless, so he readily accepted Sarah’s comfort. But he chose to look at the positives: his kids were finally getting their lives back on track, and he couldn’t ask for anything more. On cue, Rachel returned and surprised Brady with her warm interaction towards Sarah. When they had a brief moment of privacy again, Brady declared that while he might have bad taste in clothes, he had impeccable taste in women, and he showered Sarah with compliments and kisses.

At Titan, a disheveled Philip groaned in exhaustion and frustration after he ended a phone call. Gabi arrived and promptly inquired about Philip’s awful appearance. He admitted he’d been up all night perusing every get-rich-quick scheme he could find…and he’d finally hit paydirt. Gabi listened with skepticism as Philip outlined an upcoming high-stakes poker game in Monte Carlo – a game to which he’d just secured an invite.

Gabi side-eyed Philip’s poker prowess, but he branded himself an old pro and a skilled player. He knew he could win and score enough money to rescue Titan from its bleak fate. There was only one catch: he needed a five million dollar buy-in, or the opportunity would be lost. Gabi was flabbergasted as it dawned on her that Philip wanted her to put up his stake. That amount of money would essentially drain her inheritance from Stefan dry.

Philip was contrite and claimed he’d totally understand if Gabi laughed in his face. But if she took the risk with him, she could reap a very big payday, along with a plum spot at Titan. And if Philip ended up losing, he’d spend the rest of his life paying Gabi back. She didn’t have long to mull the proposal before Xander arrived on the scene, resigned and not ready to tell their employees and shareholders the bad news. Xander suggested Philip go home and clean himself up before their big meeting.

After Xander left, Gabi asked Philip why he’d remained mum on his plans to Xander. Philip knew that Xander would consider the idea another disaster-in-waiting.
