David Foster is dropping truth bombs about a red-carpet moment involving Meghan Markle that quickly became something that it apparently wasn’t.

The music producer has said that he did not snub the Duchess of Sussex at a charity event in Canada, on Aug. 7.

The moment that everyone is talking about happened when Meghan andPrince Harry were posing for photographers at a gala celebrating the 40th anniversary of the David Foster Foundation.

In a clip, Foster appears to walk past Meghan (whose jewelry was later criticized) while she and Harry are standing on the red carpet. He then returns with his wife, Katharine McPhee, and the four pose together for photographs.

It was that interaction, or the lack thereof, that was enough to start discussions that something awkward had happened between the longtime friends. But according to Foster, there was a much less dramatic explanation for why he had seemingly walked past her.

Foster Says There Was No Snub

Harry and Meghan traveled to Canada for a date night as they celebrated their friend at the gala. Foster explained to People Magazine that he had already greeted them before the video was taken.

ā€œAs the host of the David Foster and Friends foundation event, I had already greeted our friends, the Duke and Duchess, at the entrance 10 minutes before the red carpet encounter,ā€ he said.

Foster also wasn’t having it with some implying that the couple were being ignored, saying Harry and Meghan were very much present at the event , giving their time and interacting with guests.

ā€œThey both, graciously and selflessly, gave their time and went beyond to engage with everyone,ā€ he said.

He then drew a line and made his position clear on where he stood with the Sussexes, leaving no room for doubt.

ā€œHarry and Meghan are dear friends of mine,ā€ Foster said. ā€œAnyone watching can see there was no awkward moment and certainly no snub.ā€

Even though it looked like an uncomfortable celebrity encounter, Foster insisted that it was actually much more ordinary. He said the group was simply trying to work out where everyone should stand for the best photograph.

ā€œIt’s sad that certain media chose to deceive a red carpet encounter for clickbait,ā€ Foster said. ā€œThey turned simple ā€˜positioning’ to get the best photo into a hurtful lie.ā€

The Friends Were There for a Bigger Reason

The event was held as part of a weekend celebrating four decades of the David Foster Foundation, which gives financial support to Canadian families whose children need life-saving organ transplants.

The black-tie gala raised $14.5 million for the foundation and also featured performers and guests including Adam Levine. Foster and McPhee have been friends with Harry and Meghan for a very long time.

McPhee previously explained that she and Meghan knew each other from childhood after they attended the same Los Angeles high school. Their husbands also have become close friends through the years.

ā€œMy husband has a really, really beautiful relationship with Harry,ā€ McPhee told Access Hollywood in 2020.

Foster has also helped the Sussexes in the past. In 2019, he arranged for the couple to stay at a mansion on Vancouver Island owned by one of his friends while they spent time away from the spotlight.

At the time, Foster said he was happy to help them find a place where they could ā€œgo under the radar.ā€
