Chris Carter seemingly confirms Mulder and Scully could return in Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot

Chris Carter has been a crucial part of the original X-Files series and will soon be dropping a director’s cut of his 2008 movie, The X-Files: I Want to Believe. The movie initially had an earlier release date, which was later delayed. This director’s cut version, which will include intense elements that were initially cut in the original movie because of the PG-13 rating, will now release on August 14 on Hulu and Disney Plus.
For the X-Files enthusiasts, Chris Carter has some more good news. In a recent interview with Polygon, Carter opened up about the possibility of Mulder and Scully’s presence in Ryan Coogler’s reboot of the series.

It cannot be denied that David Duchovny’s Fox Mulder and Gillian Anderson’s Dana Scully have been driving factors in making the original series a fan favorite. Through Scully and Mulder’s investigations, viewers were able to navigate through numerous complicated cases, which often involved inexplicable situations.

In a recent interview with Polygon, Chris Carter, the creator of the original series, opens up about the presence of Agent Mulder and Agent Scully in Ryan Coogler’s X-Files reboot; he notes that Gillian Anderson “is going to appear” in the reboot. He also adds that he is “assuming” David Duchovny will also appear in the reboot series. Hence, the viewers will be able to see both “Mulder and Scully there”.
Though much detail about Ryan Coogler’s reboot is not revealed, through Chris Carter’s words it can be understood that the storyline will shed some light on the original series and might have a continuation of the storyline. As Chris Carter has not seen the X-Files reboot of Ryan Coogler, he is not aware of the storyline or whether the storyline will be in “competition” or “complimentary” to the original series.

Ryan Coogler’s reboot of the original series has a roster of intriguing cast members. Himesh Patel, who is known for projects such as The Odyssey, Enola Holmes 3, The Franchise, Greedy People, Black Mirror, etc., will take on the lead role in the reboot series besides Danielle Deadwyler. Both Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler will be the FBI agents joining hands to solve mysterious cases together.
Besides Himesh Patel and Danielle Deadwyler, some of the other cast members of Ryan Coogler’s reboot are Amy Madigan, Ben Foster, Steve Buscemi, Lochlyn Munro, etc. Chris Carter, in the interview with Polygon also opened up about his desire to make a reboot. He notes that he would “love” to make a reboot or even “another movie” as he has many ideas for the storyline. He added that he has “big ideas” that could either be incorporated into a movie or a TV series.
Director’s cut version of The X-Files: I Want to Believe is also given a new title. The new version’s title is The X-Files: I Want to Believe - Vrach Frankenshteyn will be “shorter than the original”.

In a previous interview with The Hollywood Reporter, Chris Carter noted that through this new version, which is set to drop on August 14 on the streaming platforms, he hopes to “give the fans what they wanted”. He also did not just “throw in everything”; rather, he focused on the “scares” part, which was left out in the 2008 movie due to the PG-13 rating.
