Cinco de Mayo falls on Taco Tuesday this year, and what better way to celebrate than to grab a taco from some of the best taco trucks in the area.
Here, we've gathered intel from our features reporters on some of their favorite tacos they've tried in recent memory.
We happen to know that La Fresita and El Malecon are their top two picks. Here's what they ordered from those two trucks, as well as recommendations from three others they've visited.

La Fresita
Birria tacos with consommé and a side of rice from La Fresita in Akron's Ellet neighborhood.
La Fresita, the food truck counterpart to La Fresa, a Mexican restaurant and pinata store, offers birria tacos, tamales, burritos and delicious homemade desserts.
When reporters Tawney Beans and Kerry Clawson visited last summer, they ordered hibiscus agua fresca and horchata (a traditional Mexican drink made of rice water, cinnamon and vanilla) to drink. For their meals, Tawney went with four birria tacos (sans cheese) and a side of rice, and Kerry got the burrito norteno.
The tacos were topped with cilantro and onion and came with the traditional consommé for dipping. The burrito came stuffed with carne asada, chicken and onions and topped with shrimp, chorizo, pineapple and cheese dip.

Quesadillas, fajitas, burritos, tacos, chimichangas and special dinners are among the offerings at El Malecon. The available meats are chicken, steak, shrimp, chorizo (pork sausage), carnitas (slow-cooked pork), al pastor (marinated pork) and lengua (beef tongue).
When reporter Mark J. Price visited two summers ago, he ordered one of the truck's most popular dishes at the time: the California Burrito, which is stuffed with chicken, chorizo, steak, rice, beans, shredded cheese, lettuce, guacamole, pico de gallo and sour cream, and topped with queso dip. He asked for the red and green salsa, freshly made from roasted chili peppers, to be served on the side. The dish came with fries.
He said it was the largest burrito he'd ever seen.

The Funky Truckeria
The Funky Truckeria in Norton gave reporter Craig Webb a taste of summer during a December 2022 visit.
After mulling the numerous menu options, Craig tried the steak and chorizo campechano taco and a BBQ carnitas taco while his wife, Jennifer, went for the fried grouper taco and the birria street style taco. They also ordered the chorizo funky balls, as well as chips with pico de gallo and street corn salsa.

SIG Tacos
SIG Tacos' braise the lord (braised beef), green goddess (chicken) and al pastor (marinated pork) tacos.
When reporter Tawney Beans visited SIG Tacos last summer, she was looking for some variety in her order, which led to her to get three different tacos and a side of salsa with homemade chips.
She landed on:
Braise the Lord ($6), SIG’s braised beef taco, which had the most rounded-out flavor of the trio thanks to the toasted chipotle and guajillo peppers blended into the juices.
Al Pastor ($5). Instead of a fresh slice of pineapple topping the meat, theirs is slowly cooked with the fruit, which becomes incorporated into the meat, giving it a slightly sweet flavor.
Green Goddess taco ($5), a chicken taco that is normally topped with lime crema. She had hers served with their smoky chipotle sauce (50 cents) that proved to have some kick to it.
Finally, she tried the chips and salsa. She admittedly wasn’t expecting much, but said there was a sweetness to the salsa that she enjoyed.
"If I’d had someone to yap with about these tacos, I’m sure I would’ve done so," she wrote.

Fabi's Taco Truck
Fabian Leon cooks up steak tacos for a customer, Thursday, Aug. 19, 2021, in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio.
Fabian Leon took a leap of faith by opening Fabi's Taco Truck after his brother shuttered the family's restaurant Uncle Tito's Mexican Grill in March 2020. The challenges he faced during the pandemic forced his hand and the taco truck was his solution.
His family hails from the Jalisco area of Mexico, which is best known for its tequila. When Leon first started his truck, he knew he wanted to incorporate his family's agave ranch into the business' imagery.
“What we have in our lives is where we're from, our heritage, and we try to bring some of it back to our friends,” Fabian told the Beacon Journal in 2021.
Street tacos, nachos, quesadillas, traditional tacos and a special salsa that his mother has made for 30 years are part of Fabi's menu.
